Dennison, TX

We started of a short weekend run in north Texas, for a Friday night show at Grandpappy Point on Lake Texoma, where the state line is invisibly located in the water. The typical gathering of everybody was part of the start, and as we made our way to the venue, we were surrounded by ominous rain clouds, and even thought we witnessed a birth of a wall cloud that never developed. Most of the time, we know very little what each show situation is, unless we have played it before, and in this case, we have played shows out here before, but this stage was located in a different spot, not either of the 2 stages we have played out here before. The good news here, is that we were going to be inside, in a metal building, with concrete floors and windows all down the sides–a soundman’s nightmare. This place is normally a party spot, with it being at the marina, and a Dallas/Ft Worth resident destination one hour from the city’s, but it appeared most boats were removed to be winterized and stored, and it was quiet enough to hear a catfish burp. There were a few serious boaters getting a boat ride in before the sun went down, as we (Brandon Jenkins Band, Mike Ryan Band, and us) had dinner with fans by the water. About this time was when they opened the concert doors, and the music started shortly after. I slipped off to the cabin for a shower, when I was approached by a young gentleman who said he had no money for a concert ticket. It is quite common to be hustled by people with lies wanting money, but I believed him, and Cuz “42″ (Keith) and myself split the cost of the ticket, and gave him the money to get in. The cost of changing lives…. We hit the stage at 10:20, and had a hard time seeing anybody in the crowd, due to the stagelighting trusses about 40 ft away, which just created shadows everywhere, and making silhouettes of all the people. Brandon came up onstage with us for Feet don’t touch the ground, we had a good time and hope everyone found their way home safely. We stuck around for a little bit, and viewed the ring around the moon, with accomplices Wayne and Tony. Thanks out to the Robinson’s for the homecookin’, and thanks to all of you who came out to support all 3 bands for the show. See you down the road…..Cheers!! elstevo
